The Light of the Moon Project

Stories of Motherhood

The Light of the Moon project is a curated series of written memoirs of Motherhood, combined with heartfelt, nostalgic black-and-white imagery. Images that have been collected in precious and intimate moments shared in honour of the journey of Motherhood.

This project combines my passion for documenting the exquisite bond between Mother and child, my love for stories, and my love of written language, to deliver something special. Something tangible that reminds us of our beauty and significance, as Mothers and as women. Something that reminds us of what a powerful and sacred gift the role of Motherhood is. Something that unites us through the stories we share. A gift of stories as medicine.

My vision is to share snippets of the project online, and publish it in its entirety in a beautiful hardcover book.

I am deeply grateful, and honoured to have the opportunity to collectively explore and document parts of Motherhood with women from all across Australia. This work would not have the opportunity to be brought to life without their participation. Without the sacred journey of Motherhood.

The Vision

Motherhood is one of the strongest forces I have ever encountered. It is beautiful, raw, relentless, challenging, heart-warming, heart-wrenching, inspiring, and magical. All at the same time. The bond between a Mother and child is deeply beautiful to witness… in its ups and downs and it's intimacy, in it's unrelenting, love, courage, devotion, resistance, curiosity, compassion. What makes it even more magical is it it's all fleeting. Here for a short time, yet also a lifetime. Motherhood is everything. And sometimes nothing. It drives us in ways we sometimes don't understand. It's strikes us at our core. It runs deep in us. It's a force to be reckoned with. It is complex, yet simple. Incredibly powerful, and yet delicate at the same time.

Not long before this project landed with me (quite a few years ago now), I had just finished readingWomen Who Run With the Wolves (Clarissa Pinkola Estes) and a particular concept resonated with me deeply; reaffirming in me the need to do this work. Clarissa speaks beautifully of a mythical figure in archetypal stories called "La Loba" - a strong, but gentle woman who resides in a cave and gently gathers and resurrects the "bones" of womankind - the stories, and sacred parts of "us" (our wild selves) that have been lost or suppressed throughout history. The parts of us that have died, been killed off - left as bones, as a result of the impact of various "predators" (threats, challenges, oppressors - mythical or otherwise) of the wild woman in us all. Through singing to the bones, praying, and tending, she brings them back into the light. Back to life.

Clarissa speaks of a wild woman's power, as the ability to honour the cycle of birth/death/life, for the greater good of humankind. As though it's our gift as women to bring things back to life. To the light. Through love. Through creation.

The Birthing

I have spent time with almost 50 beautiful, powerful women across Australia thus far. I thank each and every one of you with my whole heart, for the precious time we have shared, your trust in me, and the beautiful wisdom. It is truly an honour.

It has been a long and deeply precious gestation to bring this project to life - longer than I expected. But I trust in the timing. It feels like the time for publication of this beautiful work is approaching.

I invite you to join the project, there is still space, should you feel called to share your story. I would be honoured to create space to document the magic of your Motherhood.

The Legacy

It is my hope that this beautiful book makes it to the homes, and the bedsides of many women. That it is shared, gifted, and read ‘till it’s edges are worn and it’s pages, curled… Healing, empowering and inspiring women of all ages, stages and walks of life, through the art of storytelling, through our shared experience of Motherhood, for many generations to come.

Pre-order will be announced when the project has come to completion, and is ready to meet the world. Stay tuned.
